The head design may not be exact but should give a close approxi- mation of what the piston will look like . D-Cup Design D-Cup - Maintains quench design and keeps the piston rim level all the way around Step-Dish Design Step-dish maintains the full quench while lowering the rest of piston rim below deck . This design allows for a big volume dish on long strokes while still maintaining the quench . Flat-Top Design Circular Dish Design Circular Dish Design - Has no quench and the dish is just lowered below the rim of the piston. Calculating Ring End Gap Top ring: bore x gap factor (see chart on page 5 for your application) = ring end gap example: 4.030” bore x .004” factor (street naturally aspirated) = .016” minimum ring gap Second ring: Naturally Aspirated - .004” per inch of bore min. Boosted - .005” per inch of bore min.

Lock Ring Installation

Tru-arc lock rings – used in FHR series
1. Install with open end of lock ring facing down.
Do not over compress lock, just enough to start in pin hole.
2. Install sharp outer edge of lock facing out.

Spiral lock rings – used in PREMIUM series 1. Spring the lock about 1/2” to 3/4” to get your thumb between the coils. .

2. Insert tang into groove. Slightly twist your wrist towards the groove angling the lock downward into the groove. .

3. Using a small flat screwdriver push down on the lock to push it into the groove. Continue in a circular rotation. Do not try and spiral the lock in. .

Oil Support Rail

Applications where the wrist pin is intersecting the oil groove require an Oil Support Rail to bridge the gap the wrist pin cut out has made. All three of the oil control rings are installed on top of the support rail. Special Note: Raised dimple on support rail is positioned down and indexed in the open area the wrist pin has made in the oil ring groove.

Piston Nomenclature

Compression Height Centerline of wrist pin to top of piston, do not include dome height. .

Offset Wrist Pin The short side of the offset must be towards the thrust face of the engine. .

Measuring Point Measure even with the bottom of the wrist pin pad and 90° to the pin. .

PISTON ORIENTATION

Quench is the area behind the valves. This area should match the flat area on your cylinder head. Proper quench promotes cooling of the piston and can be effective in reducing detonation.		Checking cylinder heads: icon suggests checking cylinder heads with clay or some other method before final assembly to assure proper piston to head clearance.

PREMIUM FORGED

2618 and 4032 Alloy Premium Forged series “Off the Shelf” pistons loaded with Premium Forged features found in custom made pistons. 2618 Alloy material has less than 1% silicon content and is formulated and heat treated for the most demanding performance applications such as very high compression ratios, boosted application and nitrous. 2618 Alloy does have high thermal expansion which requires larger piston to wall clearance than 4032 alloy. 2618 Alloy applications come with triple wound Spiral Locks 4032 Alloy material has 11% silicon content which controls the thermal expansion so a tighter piston to wall clearance may be used over the 2618 alloy. The additional silicon will also increase wearability on the skirts and pin bores making this an ideal material for street and some boosted applications.
